Spring Ahead and Fall back

Yesterday the phone rang in the middle of the afternoon and the caller ID announced unknown caller. If you want my attention during the KU football game, you need to have your phone set to tell me who the heck you are. The set announced "Happy Halloween from Morocco" and I was on the phone like a duck on a June Bug. Kendra and Katrina were calling from Morocco. What a treat to hear those voices and then get to talk to Julie and Gerald. They brought Halloween to the apartment house they live in and they were the hit of the place as they brought the parents to their apartment and the kids went out in groups to forage for candy. The University in Ifrane, Morocco is an English speaking school and most of the kids speak French and English. We were worried that the Special K's would have trouble but like most smart and cute kids, they have managed to do well. Their mother is a little concerned that they have moved on to higher mathematics without the math facts as it is taught here but I'm sure that they will have their math genes from their father as well as their mother.

For years, some mental Genius would schedule the Spring Field Training Exercise (FTX) at Fort Riley the weekend of the time change. I always felt like they had managed to cheat me out of one of those precious hours of sleep I needed. Get up early, work all day and half of the night and then get deprived of an hour's sleep. It is a wonder that I didn't have an accident on the way home. Oh well...

Now, we have the fall back part of the day light savings change. We get the extra hour by setting the clocks back an hour. With today being Sunday, most of you will wake up when you wake up and then change your clocks. Tomorrow is the day that everyone will wonder if they are on time or late when they go to work. How does that work when you are a Fireman and on duty during the time change? Do you donate an extra hour to the job or do they manage to pay overtime?
Now that we are living retirement, time isn't a great big deal. We basically get to sleep and wake up whenever we feel we want. Putting things off until tomorrow is a good thing because tomorrow will probably be a day with time to fill. have a great Sunday out there. Sunny and mid 60's here and I'll bet a bike ride is in order.
